Remember me!? OK, so I’m not so good about sending updates to my friends (Facebook has really confused things). But alas, I know where to go when I’m fundraising!
What are you doing Jimbo?
I am doing the “Climate Ride”* on a unicycle — September 21-25, 2013. It is a 5-day supported ride from New York City to Washington DC. There will be about 150 riders, all on bikes except for yours truly on one wheel.
It is a fundraiser* supporting sustainability and bike (or unicycle, let’s just say, non-carbon spewing) advocacy.
To keep it simple and inclusive, I’ve decided to specify the amount that I request and get broad support.
Who gets the money?
So the ask is $10. The money supports Climate Ride and two non-profits that I chose:
One Global – 1% for the Planet http://onepercentfortheplanet.org/about/mission/
One Local – East Bay Bike Coalition (www.ebbc.org) — which does a lot of great bike advocacy.
Will there be music?
I will have a portable battery-powered speaker on my unicycle and the SpinCycle mix will be in effect–as there is on every road ride I do! Also, I want everyone to send me one song suggestion to add to my playlist.
Can you really ride over 300 miles on a unicycle in 5 days?
I should mention that in April of this year, I rode the Primavera Century Ride in Fremont — I rode 100 miles with 6000 feet of vertical climb in just over 10 hours on my unicycle. So I am confident that I can complete the Climate Ride. Also, I just did the marathon at the unicycle championships in 2 hours 12 minutes — and it was a hilly course.
How can I help?
So, I’d like three things from you:
1. A $10 donation: http://bike.climateride.org/participant/spincycle
2. One song suggestion to add to my playlist, and
3. That you spread the word about what I’m up to.
Jim (aka SpinCycle)
P.S. Just got back from the unicycle championships in Pennsylvania where we won Basketball, and got 2nd in hockey 🙂
