The time has come to face the music … and the road. I had the usual epic adventure just getting out here — including weather delays, and winding up in the Econo Lodge in Elizabeth, NJ.
Anyway, the Climate Ride begins tomorrow. It was pretty cool going to the registration tonight and meeting so many new folks and seeing bikes, bikes, bikes.
I will be riding my unicycle to the start in the morning, along with another rider who is hosting me. He lives in Jersey City, so we plan to take The Path (metro) into Manhattan, and then ride over to the start point in Brooklyn.
Thanks to the people on this list and others, I have raised over $2800! This is well over the $2400 minimum. Many riders set their goal at the minimum, but my goal is $5000, so I will continue to raise money along the way.
Of course, the reasons doing this for ride are complicated–the cause, the challenge, ego, promoting something I love (unicycling), etc. There was a good article about this in the Wall Street Journal entitled, “Pedaling for a Good Cause–But Why?”
Climate Ride Blog: http://www.climateride.org/blog – this is the ride’s official blog.
I may be doing some random Facebooking and blogging, but probably the main thing I will do during the ride is Tweet.
Twitter: @spincycle — if you want to follow along.
Lastly, instead of another photo of me, here are two of others with my uni — one is Deven, the manager of the Econo Lodge who practically insisted that he get a photo with it.
The other is of the NYPD in the subway who insisted that I ride it for them in the subway, while warning me to watch my head because of the low ceilings.
Wish me luck!
