After nearly a month, I’m on the road! I left this morning from my friends’ place in Cape Town. (A big thank you to Chris & Tamlyn — more about them later). I was packing, sorting, repacking, filtering, right up until the last minute. Didn’t pull out of the driveway until 11:11 am (kiss your knee and make a wish). It is hot as hell–I’m so glad my riding suit is all black 🙁
First stretch was all highway–at least there was a breeze. One unexpected and undesired result of having the uni on the back — people are tailgating me even worse then before…in order to take a good look at that weird bike on the back. I turned off the highway and took a regional road to Wellington–scenic farmland. From there, up to Bain’s Kloof, very beautiful mountain pass–and very narrow road. Still getting used to the weight of my fully loaded bike. Haven’t been on a motorcycle this loaded since I finished my last Africa trip when I pulled into my friend’s place in Dublin, Ireland.
I’m writing this at the Mill & Oak Inn, about 10 km outside of Ceres, where the nice folks let me glom onto their office WiFi. On my way to a “backpacker” in Cederberg. http://www.cederbergoasis.co.za/
Planning to post a Google map so you can show the kids and make this trip at least a little educational 🙂
